A new look.
A few simple steps.
Choose a reference face, turn on your camera, and try a full-face swap or an effect on one facial region. Processing happens in your browser.
Before you start
A compatible browser
Start with an up-to-date Chrome or Edge browser on a laptop or desktop with WebGPU available. The app checks your browser and disables setup if WebGPU is unavailable.
Mobile support depends on the browser and device. A responsive layout does not guarantee that a phone can run the models.
Time for the first download
The five model files total about 838 MB. Use a stable connection and keep the page open while they download and initialise. Speed depends on your connection and hardware.
Models are cached in this browser when storage is available. Clearing site data, using another browser, or storage eviction can trigger another download.
Your first face swap
Open the app and confirm permission
Open LocalFaceSwap and tick the box confirming you have permission to use the faces and camera footage. Click Launch studio.
Let the models load
The progress bar shows the current model and overall download progress. Initialisation may continue after a download finishes. Wait until the camera interface appears and the status says Ready.
Choose a reference face
Select a category and tap a built-in thumbnail, or use Choose your own photo. Use a clear, front-facing photo with one visible face, good lighting, and no heavy obstruction. Uploaded photos must be smaller than 20 MB. Wait for the reference-ready message.
Start your camera
Click Start and allow camera access when your browser asks. Face the camera in even lighting. The reference supplies the facial identity or features; your camera supplies the live movement.
Choose a region and adjust the effect
Start with Full and the default 70% blend. Try Nose, Lips, Eyes, Brow, or Chin. Adjust Blend Opacity and Sharpness to compare results. Switching the reference category does not change the selected region.
Stop when you are finished
Click Stop to release the camera. You can start it again in the same session. Closing or leaving the page also stops its camera tracks.
What each control does
| Control | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Region | Full applies the face swap across the face. Nose, Lips, Eyes, Brow, and Chin restrict blending to that facial region. |
| Blend Opacity | Lower values show more of your original camera image; higher values show more of the swapped face. Start at 70% and adjust to taste. |
| Sharpness | Controls extra sharpening. Set it lower if the result looks harsh or grainy. Increasing this does not increase the model’s native resolution. |
| Reference categories | Browse the built-in face photos. Select a thumbnail to use it. You can also choose your own photo from your device. |
| Mirror | Flips the camera view horizontally. The Mirror button and Mirror Camera switch control the same setting. |
| Zoom and pan | Use the mouse wheel to zoom and drag to move the preview. On a supported touch device, pinch to zoom and use hold-drag to pan. |
This version is a live preview. It does not include video recording, video export, or a virtual camera for Zoom or other apps. Saved control preferences stay in this browser; uploaded photos are not saved as reusable references.
What stays on your device
Reference-photo analysis, face embeddings, camera frames, and the swap run locally in the browser. This app does not upload your reference photo or camera feed to its server.
The site still uses the internet to load its pages, runtime files, fonts, and models. Cached models reduce later downloads; this version does not include an offline app shell, so do not assume it will reopen without a connection.
If something does not work
“Not supported on this device”
WebGPU is unavailable to the page. Open the HTTPS site in an up-to-date Chrome or Edge browser. Check that browser graphics acceleration is enabled, restart the browser, and try again. If your device or graphics driver does not support WebGPU, use another compatible computer.
The download fails or seems stuck
Check your connection, free some device storage, and click Retry. Keep the tab open while the models load. A model already cached successfully can be reused; an interrupted model may need to download again. Network filtering can also prevent model or runtime downloads.
The camera is blocked, missing, or in use
Allow camera permission for this site using your browser’s site settings. Check your operating system’s camera privacy settings. Close other apps using the camera, reconnect an external camera if needed, then click Start again.
“No face detected” or the effect does not appear
Choose a reference with one clear, front-facing face. Avoid sunglasses, hands over the face, extreme angles, and very dark photos. Wait for reference selection to finish, start the camera, and keep your face visible. Make sure Blend Opacity is above zero.
The preview is slow or the laptop gets warm
Close other GPU-heavy tabs and applications. Keep one LocalFaceSwap tab open and connect a laptop to power if needed. Performance depends on available memory, graphics hardware, browser support, and the selected region. Stop the camera when you are not using it.
The result looks soft or unnatural
Use even lighting and a clear reference with a similar face angle. Reduce Blend Opacity for a subtler effect. Try a lower Sharpness value if edges look harsh. Results vary with pose, lighting, expression, and the reference photo.
Why is it downloading again?
The cache belongs to this browser and site address. Switching between the custom domain and the original Sites address creates separate storage. Browser cleanup, private browsing, or low storage can prevent cached models from being retained.
Ready to try it?
Open the app, choose a reference, and start your camera.
